Nourishing Nippers

Childhood nutrition is not just a trimmed down version of nutrition for adults. Smaller bodies doesn’t necessarily mean smaller requirements. Because kids are growing at such great rates they actually often have a high nutrient requirement – of both micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and macronutrient (fats, proteins and carbohydrates). You can’t beat real food nutrition for nourishing nippers! Supplements, while incredibly useful in certain situations and for acute treatment just do not provide the same effects as getting your nutrients through nourishing, nutrient dense foods.

We’ve written this booklet and run workshops on healthy food for kids because we’re concerned about the amount of food-like substances (i.e. fake / processed food) in kids diets today. It’s no wonder we have so many kids on medications and with chronic health problems when you look at what’s in their lunch boxes.  Often there’s very little in the way of real food in there. Packaged foods are a minefield of artificial colours, preservatives, flavours, flavour enhancers and sweeteners, heavily processed grains, trans fats and sugars that it’s no surprise we have the rates of asthma, eczema, allergies, diabetes, attention deficit and even autism. How can kids grow well if they don’t have the fuel their growing bodies require? Let’s start a kids food revolution.
