Description
An "intestinal broom", psyllium is a soluble fibre obtained from the husks of pysllium seed. It is used as a bulking agent making it useful for both constipation and loose stools. By absorbing water and creating a gel like consistency pysllium increases the bulk of stools, softening hard stools and bringing more form to loose stools. Unlike osmotic or stimulant laxatives, pysllium does not cause dependence or bowel damage and is safe to take on a daily basis if needed. Pysllium helps improve nutrient absorption from food and can be helpful in lowering cholesterol.Safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
How To Use
Place psyllium husks in a glass of water, stir and drink immediately. Start with 1 teaspoon once daily and gradually increase as needed, e.g. 1 tspn in water 2-3 x daily or 1 TBS in water daily. Either way, start low and go slow to avoid feeling bloated and uncomfortable - give your gut time to gradually adapt to the increased amount of soluble fibre coming in and moving through.
